What can be more relaxing than a spa day with friends? Sensory deprivation therapy combined with Massage Therapy provides a unique way to de-stress.

Floating helps you to counteract stress in two distinct ways, the first of which is has to do with magnesium.

  • Magnesium inhibits ACTH, a hormone that drives your adrenal glands to release the stress hormone cortisol.

  • Magnesium also improves sleep quality, which further decreases stress. Many people are magnesium deficient, and you absorb magnesium through your skin when you float, balancing any deficiency you may have.

  • The sensory deprivation aspect of floating also quells stress. In a recent study, participants floated with limited sensory input 8 times over the course of 2 weeks. Their s cortisol decreased by 21.6%. That’s a lot! Participants also showed a 50.5% decrease in cortisol variability – they handled stressful situations better, without a spike in cortisol.

The book, “The Magnesium Miracle,” writes about a study in which cells that were deficient in magnesium were twice as likely to experience attacks from free radicals, thereby increasing wrinkles. The upshot of the study was that increasing magnesium reduced wrinkles. Magnesium also reduces skin allergies. If someone is low in magnesium it increases production of histamines, which can lead to skin reactions such as blotches. If you want to reduce skin allergies come float and get your magnesium.

June Rejuvenation

Living in Florida we are lucky to enjoy the sunshine and warmer weather 2/7! However there is something so rejuvenating to us about syncing into the rhythm of Summertime in the South.

As we take the steps to adjust to a summer pace we want to share a few of our favorite tips!

Stay Hydrated
Summer’s intense heat saps moisture from plants, the earth, and our bodies. That’s why it’s okay to add an extra pinch of salt in your food in the summer to compensate for sweating and to prevent fatigue. Also, drink at least 16-24 ounces of water per day

Eat Cooling Foods 
Some of the best foods are leafy greens, coconut, cucumber, cantaloupe, and watermelon. Garnish salads and other dishes with cooling cilantro, parsley, and alfalfa sprouts, and avoid hot drinks, spicy food, alcohol, caffeine, and chilies.

Moisturize Daily
After showering, mix one teaspoon each of organic, unrefined coconut oil and castor oil in a glass bottle with a cap. Place the bottle in hot water until the oil is lukewarm (not hot!). Apply to your whole body to keep your skin supple, soft, and cool. You can also use this treatment before you swim to protect your skin from salt water or chlorine!
